"A little bit of everything" – that's the motto of the Mettler family, who have been running this characterful and historic inn and bakery since 1899.

The Hirschen Wald boasts six newly renovated, spacious, and comfortable rooms that blend old and new; a small bakery with a century-old oven, filled with the aroma of bread, braided loaves, and numerous other specialties; two cozy dining rooms with a 250-year-old sideboard, where traditional regional cuisine is served; and a hall for up to 60 people with views of the Alpstein mountain range and the rolling hills of Appenzell. The family-run establishment is located outside the village of Wald, surrounded by meadows and forests at an altitude of 1,050 meters. Those seeking peace and tranquility will find it here.
