Discover the multiple facets of Ticino in a different way and experience winter in the south rather than in the mountains.

I have been living near Lugano for 20 years and have learned to appreciate Ticino not only in the summer, but also in the winter, when the calm returns. There is a very special magic about Ticino in the winter to be experienced. Nevertheless, there are plenty of other reasons why you should definitely visit Ticino in the coming weeks:

1. Bargains are a dime a dozen

For the first time in 56 years, the Vogorno reservoir in the Verzasca Valley is being emptied for renovation work. Old terraced gardens, where vines were once cultivated, are now coming to light. Likewise, the little sister of the Ponte dei Salti (Roman Bridge), untouched by the water, is emerging. A unique opportunity.

8. My insider tipp

A visit to the Ristorante Grand Cafe al Porto in the historic centre of Lugano is not to be missed. Luganesians come and go here. Fine pastries, savoury coffee or perhaps a casual aperitif?
