HotelCard's journey began in 2009 at the kitchen table of a family-run hotel in the picturesque Engadine Valley. A young Swiss entrepreneur was looking for a way to boost the hotel's occupancy during the off-season. The result was a clever concept – a "half-fare card for hotels," inspired by Switzerland's popular public transport discount pass.
The idea quickly gained traction: Numerous hotels joined as partners, and the number of members grew rapidly over the following years. What started as a simple yet innovative idea soon turned into a success story. The model played a key role in promoting year-round domestic tourism in Switzerland and helped hotels achieve a stable base occupancy.
At the beginning of 2020, HotelCard entered a new chapter: Under new leadership with Twint founder Thierry Kneissler as Chairman, strategic investments were made in cutting-edge booking technology and the further development of the business model to better meet the evolving needs of both hotels and members. The efforts paid off – today, HotelCard is more popular than ever, not only in Switzerland but also in neighboring regions.
