A visit to the Black Forest isn't complete without a stop in sunny Freiburg. Only in the Black Forest Cuckoo clocks & BollenhĂźte đ°ď¸đŠWhat the Swiss Army Knife is to Switzerland, cuckoo clocks and BollenhĂźte are to the Black Forest.
Traditional cuckoo clocks with intricate wood carvings have been handcrafted here since the 18th century. A great day trip: visit Schonach, home to the worldâs largest cuckoo clock â a full-sized house with a giant wooden mechanism inside.
And then thereâs the Bollenhut: red pom-poms for unmarried women, black ones for the married â but authentic versions only come from Gutach, Kirnbach, and Reichenbach. Want to know more? Head to the Costume Museum.
